Top dressage sire Gribaldi dies at 16

Veterinarians fought for two days to save the black stallion's life. He had given a farewell performance only a week ago.

E.H. Gribaldi enjoyed an international Grand Prix dressage career with Edward Gal, and was one of the leading dressage sires in the world. His sons Painted Black (Anky van Grunsven) and Moorland's Totilas (Edward Gal) are among the very top of Dutch dressage horses, and Totilas is the current World Record holder after his stunning victory at the European Championships in Windsor in 2009.

The 1993 17hh trakehner stallion (Kostolany x Gondola II [Ibikus]) was approved for the KWPN, Trakehner, Oldenburg, and Danish warmblood registries. He is a KWPM Keur stallion. He has 10 licensed sons, including Painted Black.

Gribaldi was the 1995 champion of the stallion selections and the 1996 Champion at the his stallion inspection in Neumunster. In 1997 he was the winner of the four year old stallion competition in 's-Hertogenbosch and according to jury member Albert Voorn, "a horse that gives you a dream feeling as a rider".
