A man fatally shot himself in North Carolina after police went to his property to investigate a report of dead horses.
Officers from the Duplin County Sheriff's Office found 13 dead horses on Sunday morning at the property on Tram Road, near Mount Olive.
The 43-year-old male occupant of a mobile home on the property refused to come outside to talk to police.
Local reports said police subsequently tried to execute a search warrant and the occupant shot himself.
State authorities are investigating the incident.
The dead man has been named as 43-year-old Clifton Jacobs, who rented the property.
Reports indicate police had been called to the property twice before over complaints about the horses.
