NZ's World Equestrian Games jumping squad named

February 5, 2010

The showjumping squad for the World Equestrian Games later this year named by Equestrian Sports New Zealand this week features a mix of home and overseas-based riders.

The only remaining combination from New Zealand's 2008 Olympic Games jumping team is US-based rider Kirk Webby and Sitah, who were the best placed combination.

The riders on the squad are those "deemed capable of achieving a top 25 placing in the individual competition", according to ESNZ.

The suqad is performance based, meaning that horses and riders can be added or removed at any time.

There are two more opportunities for riders and horses to gain selection to the squad, before the final selection for WEG 2010 is made.

At that time, ESNZ will decide whether a team will be sent to the WEG.
