Reward offered over fatal horse shooting

A $US2500 reward has been offered by the Humane Society of the United States over a fatal horse shooting near Weatherford, Texas.

The cutting horse, a 7-month-old filly named Bald-Face Lie, had been shot between the eyes in a roadside pasture at close range with a high-powered rifle, the Parker County Sheriff's Office reported.

"Senseless acts of animal cruelty like the shooting of this horse should not go unpunished," said Keith Dane, the society's director of equine protection.

"We hope this reward will help law enforcement bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice."

Parker County sheriff Larry Fowler said at the time of the late-January shooting: "We won't tolerate this behaviour in our community.

"We intend on giving this case the attention it deserves so charges can be brought against those responsible."
