Two named on NZ's World Equestrian Games eventing squad

Kiwi eventers have five more chances to impress selectors before the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky later this year.

At this stage just two riders have been "deemed capable" by ESNZ of achieving a top 16 placing

at the event; Joe Meyer and Andrew Nicholson.

Meyer has been given the nod with two horses, Snip and Clifton Lush, and Nicholson with Avebury, Nereo and Armada.

The sending of a full team to WEG is also by no means a given, and Equestrian Sports New Zealand says it will make a call in May as to whether any further horses and riders meet its criteria.

ESNZ will review the 2010 squad in May, after the four-star events at Kentucky and Badminton, and the three-star at Taupo; and in June after the Melbourne 3* and Germany's Luhmuhlen four-star.

Combinations can be added to, or removed from, either squad by the selectors at any time. ESNZ said if enough combinations met its criteria it would name a team.
