Horse trainer arrested in early hours

January 1, 2010

Chad Moore

A horse trainer sought in connection with the alleged ill-treatment of horses on an Ohio property was arrested in the early hours of New Year's Eve.

The Clermont County Sheriff's Office named the trainer as 39-year-old Chad Moore.

Moore was allegedly using a Bethel, Ohio, property where Clermont County Animal Control Officers believe six horses, a pony, and a donkey had been abandoned.

Investigators reported 10 dead horses were also found on the 30-acre property.

Sheriff A.J. "Tim" Rodenberg said Moore was arrested at about 2am at the Red Roof Inn, on Mt Carmel-Tobasco Road, in Union Township, Clermont County, following a tip-off.

"Deputies responded to the scene and Mr Moore surrendered without any resistance," he said.

"He was alone at the time. He stated he was planning to turn himself in later that morning through his attorney. He will be confined in the Clermont County Jail pending court proceedings."

Moore was also sought on warrants in respect of non-support of children and driving under the influence.

"There have been some inquiries about the horses that were seized from his residence earlier this week," the sheriff said.

"They are at a private farm, being cared for by individuals who have experience with horses and are respected members of the community. Some reports have been received that there have been attempts by individuals to find or go to that location.

"Our office has been requested to provide extra patrol and security for the property and we will do so. It is requested that members of the public refrain from going onto this property. It is privately owned, and unauthorised intruders or trespassers may be arrested."

Stop, thief!
Horses - and the collection of gear that accompanies them - are valuable, and pretty much anything with value runs the risk of being stolen.
