Two teenagers have been arrested over the recent shootings of three horses and five cows in western Wisconsin.
The arrests follow joint inquiries by the Barron County and Dunn County sheriff's departments, which announced the arrests in a joint statement.
The inquiry began after the Dunn County Sheriff's Office learned on November 30 that three horses had been shot overnight. Two were found dead and the third died the next day.
The same day, police in Barron County learned of five cows being shot. All died or were euthanized.
One of the youths is to appear before the Barron County Circuit Court on charges of felony mistreatment of animals. Charges have not yet been brought against the other youth.
The arrests were the result of a tipoff.
Police are continuing their inquiries, including investigations into three horse shootings in nearby St Croix County.
The Humane Society of the United States offered a reward of up to $US2500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction over the shootings.
