Orren Mixer art features at quarter horse sale

November 15, 2009

The painting of Wimpy was commissioned by Rex Cauble. Current owner Reynolds Moreland, III is the second owner of the painting.

An original painting by famed US equestrian artist Orren Mixer is going up for auction at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show Sale this weekend.

Mixer's painting of quarter horse foundation sire Wimpy P-1 is being sold at the horse auction, which held in conjunction with the FedEx Open and Bank of America Amateur AQHA World Championship Show.

Mixer died last year at the age of 87.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to offer the original Orren Mixer Painting of Wimpy P-1," said Mike Jennnings, president of the sale management company, Professional Auction Services Inc.

"This iconic image of the first registered American Quarter Horse will be offered before the horses on Sunday morning, November 15."

Nearly 400 outstanding horses will also be offered for sale, and live online bidding is also available.
