City in Israel bans horse-drawn carriages

November 9, 2009

Israel's Tel Aviv has banned horse-drawn carriages, effectively ending a campaign against the use of horse labour in the city.

The campaign took six years and will mostly affect metal traders and junk peddlers, who ply their trade using horse-drawn carriages.

Ynet News reports that 23 road signs have been posted at entries to the city advising of the ban.
