Firefighters haul horse from muddy ditch

November 9, 2009

Firefighters in Somerset, England, have hauled a horse named Leonard from a muddy ditch.

While exhausted from his ordeal, Leonard nevertheless managed a gallop around his field after firefighters from the Bristol-based Avon Fire and Rescue service helped him to freedom.

The service was called to help Leonard at Marsh Lane, Clutton, early on Friday afternoon.

"When crews arrived on the scene they found Leonard completely exhausted after his own attempts to get out of the ditch," a spokesman said.

Firefighters managed to place strops around Leonard and, using the farmer's tractor, he was lifted out of the ditch under supervision from a vet.
