The victim of a fatal barn fire south of Auckland on Tuesday is expected to be identified today.
The police said yesterday that, while the post mortem had been conducted, the body had yet to be formally identified. It said a forensic dentist would examine the man's body today to establish positive identification.
The massive blaze, involving stables, was attended by 13 fire appliances on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said that a scene examination had been completed by fire safety officers and detectives at the Bryant Road, Karaka, address.
The examination established that the cause of the fire was an electrical fault in a light fitting in the barn. The fire then progressed through the building.
"It would appear that the deceased has gone to the building probably as a result of noticing the fire," a police spokesman said.
"He has entered the building and has died as a result of the fire a short time later.
"The post-mortem has been completed. The findings are consistent with the scene examination. There are no suspicious circumstances."
The name will be released once a positive identification is made and family have been notified.
The matter will be referred to the coroner.
