German clean sweep at Boekelo Horse Trials

October 12, 2009

Germany's Julia Mestern and FRH Schorsch retained their lead after the showjumping phase of the CCI three-star Boekelo Horse Trials in The Netherlands over the weekend, to take individual honours and seal victory for the German team.

Mestern was the only rider to finish on her dressage score, ending with 39.20 penalties and taking home the €12,500 first prize.

Great Britain dropped in the teams ranking to third, overtaken by France.

Individually, dressage leader Simone Deitermann on Free Easy NRW (41.80) retained second, and Britain's Ruth Edge and P.C. Wilson (44.00) edged out France's Nicholas Touzaint on Tatchoufor (45.80) for third.

With a jump rail down New Zealand's Mark Todd and Grass Valley (62.00) still managed to improve their position to 21st overall. Dan Jocelyn and Special Advocate were the next ranked Kiwis in 51st with 79.80, and Neil Spratt and Upleadon ended with 103.00 in 69th. Bruce Haskell and Not Kidding were 74th on 107.20.

The New Zealand team finished fifth.
