Six horses seized by police in Louisiana have been surrendered to authorities and will be sold by auction this week.
Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says the owner of the six horses, taken from Stewart Road in Haughton, has been charged with cruelty to animals over the condition of the horses.
Deen said the owner released the horses to department and the Livestock Brand Commission.
The horses will be sold at public auction on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at 11.30am at the Red River livestock sale on Highway 1 at Armistead.
"The proceeds from the sale will be used to cover the costs of the impoundment, veterinary exams, transportation and care."
