More equine flu cases in India

June 5, 2009

The latest cases of equine influenza in India's long-running battle against the disease are in the state of Uttaranchal.

India, in its latest report on the outbreak to the World Organisation for Animal Health, reports cases in five village locations across the state.

Worst-affected was in the area of Ukhimath, Gaurikund and Rudraprayag, which had a total of 114 cases.

Case numbers in other villages ranged from two to 24.

The most recent cases include six horses that became infected at the Haridwar police stables.

India has been fighting the outbreak, across several states, since the middle of last year.
