Former US Olympic eventer dies

US Olympic eventing rider Washington D. Bishop died earlier this month in Middleburg, Virginia. He was aged 53.
"Wash" grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and in 1973 Wash moved to Middleburg to ride and train three-day-event horses. He was then invited to train with the United States Equestrian Team. He was a member of the 1980 Olympic Team, the 1995 European Championships team, and on the 1996 Olympic short list. He was not only a talented rider and competitor; he was an excellent teacher and coach who passed his knowledge and love of the sport on to his many students.
He is survived by his daughter Annie Bishop, son-in-law Robert Onda, his sisters Becky Johnson and Donna Rodgers.
Movie horse trainer Corky Randall dies

Corky Randall, the trainer of the horses in The Black Stallion movies, died late last month of cancer at the age of 80.
Buford "Corky" Randall, died on April 20 in Newhall, California, after a long illness. From the 1960s to the late 1990s Randall trained horses for feature films and television such as The Misfits (1961), How the West Was Won (1962), Hot to Trot (1988), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and The Mask of Zorro (1998). It was with the film adaptation of the book The Black Stallion that Randall made his mark. He described Cass Ole - the arabian stallion who starred in the film - as his "all-time favourite horse actor".
