Virginia SPCA branch takes 41 horses into care

March 23, 2009

The Augusta Regional SPCA in Virginia has taken 41 horses into its care after the animals were seized by authorities from a property.

The branch has launched an appeal for processed feed, hay, feeding tubs, wormers, grooming supplies, salt blocks, halters and lead ropes to help meet the requirements of the animals.

Many of the animals are described as malnourished, with a majority said to score 1 or 2 on the 10-point Henneke body condition scoring system.

Inquiries are continuing.
