Horse-riding monkey on the run from circus

March 17, 2009

A horse-riding monkey is on the loose in Lake County, Florida, after escaping from a local circus.

The brown spider monkey, named Reggie, fled into woodlands from the Liebling Brothers Circus after unfastening a leash that had not been secured properly.

The monkey is not considered a danger to people.

He is a star of the circus, and often completes his horse-riding act wearing a sombrero or cowboy hat.

Reports suggest Reggie fled when he became upset over an argument between a circus official at a woman from the group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
