Ireland appoints eventing safety officer

Charles Maudlin has been appointed to the position of eventing safety office by Horse Sport Ireland.

Maudlin will liaise with the FEI on safety matters in the sport of eventing, and will be responsible for co-ordinating statistics from all cross country phases of Ireland's national horse trials. These statistics will be submitted to the FEI twice a year.

He will also be the communication link between the FEI Eventing Committee and HSI in all aspects of eventing safety, as well as between all other National Federations' NSOs.

Statistics will be submitted on all aspects of the cross-country phase, including;

Maudlin, who was already involved in horse trials through commentary and control roles, will be visiting several events throughout the season to try liaise between organisers, stewards and officials in order to find a balance between the challenge of eventing and safe competitions.

He said he was "looking forward to the challenge and to make some contribution to making the sport safer."
