Feedback invited on Aussie movement controls

January 14, 2009

The Australian Horse Industry Council (AHIC) is after feedback on the movement controls that were put in place for the eradication of equine influenza.

The council is preparing a discussion paper to take to a February meeting to discuss movement controls during emergency animal disease responses to take on board the lessons from the EI response.

The council wants views on whether horse owners felt movement controls reasonable and whether permits were easy to obtain. Were they easy to follow and implement? What was unreasonable or difficult? How might things be improved?

It wants to know whether horse owners felt the internet-based issuing of permits was a good or bad method.
