The long wait for the Commission of Inquiry report into Australia's outbreak of equine influenza is nearly over.

Federal Agriculture Minister Tony Burke has indicated that full report by former judge Ian Callinan will be released soon.

It was handed to the minister late in April.

"I think it is important not to rush the release of it but to make sure that the government response is prepared and right and was able to be all put out there at the time of the release of the report," he told reporters in Canberra."

He continued: "I do want to make clear that when the report is released, it is released in its totality.

"It won't be any sort of edited version that's released and we're not far away from being able to provide the full government response so I don't think you will have to wait too much longer."
