Riding Yamato, Goodin headed off 55 other starters to take the honours in the three-star grand prix at the Pioltello Show just outside of Milan. Eight went through to the jump-off, but there were two double clear rounds.
However, Goodin, originally from Te Kauwhata in the Waikato, was a clear winner, coming home three seconds ahead of his nearest rival.
Goodin also won the prize for leading rider of the show.
The New Zealand showjumping team is due to be named in mid June.
