An arab rider has bettered the endurance world record over 160km by 13 minutes, winning a prestigious ride in Dubai in just under six and a half hours.

Omair Hussain Al Beloushi and his horse Charlandre El Sharif won the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Endurance Cup staged at the Dubai International Endurance City in Seih Assalem, Dubai, on Saturday, in 6:28.28. The cup was worth $NZ530,000 (Dh1.5m; $US408,000), and Beloushi won $NZ88,400 (Dh250,000; $US68,000), a Nissan 4x4 vehicle and a watch from sponsors Omega.
The ride attracted the most number of riders for a non-championship ride, with 137 participatants.
The previous record for a 160km event was held by Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan on ZT Faraventure (6:41:33) set at The President's Cup ride in February 2007.
Beloushi, 22, and his 11-year-old chestnut gelding Charlandre El Sharif dominated most of the six loops. The prestigious event, organized by the Dubai Equestrian Club, was sponsored by Omega.
Beloushi also set a work record for 100km with Charlandre El Sharif last year. He is trained by Yousuf Ahmed Al Beloushi, his uncle.
Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri from Al Wathba Stables finished second on Leblond, winning Dh200,000 and a Nissan 4x4, and Mohammad Rashid Saeed Al Subosi on Genio II finished third. His prize was Dh150,000 and a Nissan 4x4.
