(Imp) Dutch-bred Warmblood, Black Mare; 16.3hh; dob 13.01.03

Freelady and Amelia French
When looking to purchase a foundation mare for our Warmblood breeding programme, proven bloodlines and faultless conformation were a prerequisite. Not only does Freelady have these attributes - she is also very beautiful and has one of the sweetest dispositions of any horse I have known. Prior to her purchase, John and I met her dam 'French Gift' - I described her to friends as being "classically beautiful - the Sophia Loren of horses". I have no doubt that in the years to come Freelady will age and mature with the same grace and beauty of her dam.

Freelady's sire Freestyle (Florestan) is a beautiful stallion with an athletic body. Like his sire Florestan; he was the overall winner of his 100 Day Performance Test. Now residing in the USA, Freestyle was described by the Olympic rider Gunter Seidel as being "the best six-year-old Dressage horse in the USA." His offspring are very much in demand for dressage. Freestyle's dam Paloma, and her four sisters were awarded the 'best family of Hessen' for four consecutive years, her grandmother Geisha is the full sister to the world famous Romadour II, the sire of the Gold medal winning Rembrandt. Freestyle's sire Florestan, has been available through AI for only a relatively short number of years. Already to his credit is the six-year-old World Dressage Champion 'French Kiss' and 'Florencio' the five and six-year-old World Dressage Champion. Florestan also produces top sport horses and leaves progeny that are easy to handle and easy to ride.

Freelady's damline complements her strong dressage sires line with Grand Prix and World Cup Show Jumping horses in her pedigree. Stirling Liberty, himself an Australian high jump record holder is also the sire of winning Dressage, Show jumping and Eventing horses. His sire Ludendorf was a GP dressage horse and an Advanced eventor; he is also he sire of International dressage horses.

Since her arrival in New Zealand, 'Lady' has been shown just a few times. Her first outing saw her take the title of South Island Champion Junior Warmblood, Supreme South Island Exhibit and NZWB Assoc Premier Filly/Mare, next outing was Canterbury A&P Show where she was the Champion Led Warmblood and then Supreme Warmblood at the Canterbury Horse and Pony Breeders Show.

At this stage, our intention is to do a yearly embryo transplant with her, whilst not interfering with her dressage schooling. Our first choice of stallion will still be Sandreo (Sandro Hit x Flemmingh) - the stallion that she was in foal to and whose foal she sadly lost.
