Coalman's touch is "one" of the best horses I have ever known. He is handsome and has given beautiful progeny. I plan to purchase a horse that he has breed. What fantastic nature these horses have.

Hello everyone I am very happy to answer questions re breeding of NZ irish horses if you contact me. You will need brands for accurate identification. Your horse should have a shamrock over NZ on its near shoulder and a Reg No over YOB on its off shoulder if its Registered with our Society. email spencethornfield@xtra.co.nz and I will reply as soon as possible. I have a mare by Kingscroft Wicklow who was by King of Diamonds. We brought her off Claire Wilson after she had failed to deliver any foals. We have managed to get 3 foals now and would like more information about the stallion. I am not sure who the damn was.

I would like any information that anyone has on an 8yr old part Irish Draught gelding I have bought. He is called Winston/Winstone, approx 17hh (maybe a little taller) chestnut with dark tail, no socks, a pathetic attempt at a star (3/4 of one), decent scar on near hind thigh, a white patch on his ribs behind where rider's leg goes, lots of black spots mainly on far side butt and thigh with a decent one on far shoulder and a few up his neck. Very soppy and friendly, but has shown impressive signs of life! Was bough from 'breeder' at 5yrs old and presumably got out and about. Marriage break up meant horse then lived on a dairy farm in Hinds for a year prior to Spring 2010. The dentist that worked on him thinks he has had his teeth done before. Farrier thinks he could be possibly crossed with a warmblood, but unlikely to be a TB? No brands. If you know anything about him, please email me at coatesg@paradise.net.nz

Hi. I have a good friend that bred a irish horse by Laughtons ledgen out of a TB mare, he would be about 17yrs old chestnut with a wide big blaze 4 white socks. He is branded and reg but i`m not sure of them. His name is Murphy reg as willowdowns irish eyes. She had shown him and done lots of naturalhorsemanship clinics with him and had to sell him when he was about 6. He went to stonehurst trecking centre near nelson. They have just had a auction and sold everything. She would love to know if he is alright but has been a bit afraid to search for him, as sometimes they don`t end up in the homes we wish for them. I would love to find him for her and give her some good news. He was born in Hororata and sold from stavely near Methven. Thanks

Thanks for all of your comments, and great to read about the joy that Irish horses are bringing to your lives. Anyone that wants to follow up their Irish horses breeding, should contact The Registrar (on the contacts page). If you have all of the relevant numbers of brands, and your horse carries the shamrock over NZ on their nearside shoulder then Lesley may be able to help. Catherine, indeed you are correct in saying that Trevor Gliddon has done alot for Irish sporthorse breeding in New Zealand, and has mostly gone un-recognised for his efforts. I visited him once, and could not believe that one person could have so many paddocks full of such beautiful horses. Last I heard Trevor had aged considerably and was struggling with his health, and therefore imagine that his breeding operation had been wound up.

Hi there, i am buying a horse from the Kawerau region (apparently he is originally from Mamaku). He is throughbred 16.3hh bay gelding (but looks more like a warmblood) with branding 13 over 2 and a shamrock on the other shoulder. His current owner says he came with the name Ben but does not know his show name. I would like to find out his breeding. My wife and I bought an Irish draught x yearling a year ago on trade me as a paddock mate for a warmblood colt we bred ourselves. ‘Stanley’ has turned out into a very nice looking chap and we will show jump him when he is old enough and we are trying to find out a bit more about his bloodlines. I was told he was by Royal Red who is IDxTHB out of a THB mare by Pins. The THB was easy enough to locate but no search that I have done comes up with a Royal Red, can you help?

I have recently purchased an Irish Hunter (chestnut gelding) - has the Shamrock brand on his left shoulder and 29 (over) 4 on his right shoulder, and came with the name Jaffa. I would love to know more about his background. The person I bought him from in Marton had him for 4 months, but sold him on as he was not ideal for hunting (didn't like the wire fences). He was previously in the South Island. He has a scar on his rear right leg where I was told he went through a fence chasing a mare (or two) in his younger days, and he has a small hernia on his underside just behind his girth - neither of these appear to bother him. He has clearly done some dressage in his past, has a bold jump and he has a very cheeky personality - knows to check all my pockets for treats. I woud be grateful for anything anyone can tell me about his background: lou_chip@hotmail.com

Trevor Gliddon is the most understated, unrecognised breeder I have come across in 35 years of horses worldwide. Willy John is a 'true Irish type' and Trevor's sporthorses are the best available in New Zealand. I have a stunning 6yr old grey who is evidence of Trevor's amazing talent for a successfully bred sporthorse-perfect in mind, body, and spirit. Give them time to grow and mature, and don't under-estimate them! Well done Trevor-you are the best!

RID stallion Rhyd's Sea Quest (sire Sea Crest; dam Ginger Anne by Ginger Dick) on October 28,2009,began his 60-day quarantine in order to freeze and export frozen semen directly to New Zealand in mid 2010. Appx. 120 doses will be available at a facility in the north island. This stallion is an outcross to most New Zealand mares, and is a brother to Lenamore,N.Z's own Olympic star in Hong Kong.
