Belcam Cordelia was imported to New Zealand in 2001.
She is by the imported Oldenburger sire, Contango II, out of Aampere, who carries the world-renowned bloodlines of Aachen.
Belcam Cordelia was selected as a broodmare not only her because of her wonderful temperament and strength of gaits, but because of her international pedigree.
Contango II is considered to be one of the most talented warmblood stallions ever to enter Australia. He competed well in dressage at both three and four years before his competition career was ended prematurely due to injury.
In his short career as a sire, Contango II stamped his mark, with his progeny now competing at grand prix levels at showjumping and at higher levels in both dressage and eventing. His first foals were born in 1995.
Contango II's dam line needs little introduction. He is out of Abraxis, who is by the world renowned French sire Alme Z. Alme Z is considered to be one of the most influential jumping sires ever and so is that of the legendary Hanoverian sire Gotthard. Both stallions feature in the pedigrees of the vast majority of top international competition horses.
Contango II is by the influential sire in Contango, who is a multi-grand prix dressage winner in the USA for the reputable Iron Spring Farm. Contango was Champion of his 100-Day Test in Medingen, Germany, in 1991. In 1997 he achieved seven wins at grand prix, and in 2002 he was awarded Keur status by the KWPN. Contango became only the second horse to attain this status after leaving the Netherlands, the other was Roemer.
Before being exported to the USA Contango was ranked first in his performance test in Germany with a total index of 146.89, and achieved the highest index ratings for both dressage (142.03) and jumping (141.27).
On her dam side Belcam Cordelia's credentials are just as impressive, being by the versatile stallion, Aachen.
Aachen was imported to Australia as a three-year-old, before being exported back to Germany as a grand prix showjumper for a record sum. In Australia, the son of Argentinus has established himself as the leading producing sire of FEI dressage horses and grand prix showjumpers, with his progeny being exported all over the world. Aachen has left a host of good horses across all three disciplines.
In Grand Prix dressage Aachen has sired horses the likes of Belcam Aarchon, now doing Grand Prix with Emmie Schmul, Middleton Apollo, As-Aachen, and Belcam Aamel. He also sired Belcam Aangelo and Belcam Admiral, both of which were exported to the USA as showjumpers.
Aachen has also been represented at the World Equestrian Games in eventing by the likes of Belcam Aava (Ava)and Belcam Aaberdeen.
Aachen himself, still competes at World Cup showjumping level in Europe to this day.
Belcam Cordelia was imported to New Zealand in foal to Clintino.
