NEWS - WINTER 2008
Of the two beautiful fillies we had born last season, the filly out of Moonshine Lace, by Cancionero CA, which we named Hanna Bondadosa is leaving NZ at the end of August on her long journey to Queensland. Her new home will be North of Brisbane, inlands from Rockhampton with Rebecca Power, who is already very excited about the arrival of her new horse. We had decided to leave both fillies in Auckland when our stud moved to the South Island in April, so that both could mature to a minimum of 8 months before embarking on any longer travel. Bondadosa will be flying with IRT from Auckland to Syndey before a long road trip up North. No doubt she will be looking forward to escaping the wet winter in Auckland, for some lovely sunshine and warmth in Queensland.

Briosa is the first filly ever out of Alondra XXIX, by Cancionero CA and we are very excited to keep her as a future broodmare.
Thank you so much to Jane and Bev Falconer of Berwick Farm for giving us the opportunity to purchase this great filly back. Enamorada has inherited the stunning movement of her dam Moonshine Lace and will also be maturing to a good height, we expect just on 160cm. She will be bred to Jaleador de JC III in the future. Preparations for the 2008 Stud Season Preparations for the 2008 stud season are in full swing with 2 stallions, Jaleador and Director being offered for services to outside mares this year. Jaleador will be available by AI only, including frozen semen. Jaleador had a very successful first season in 2007, spending time at Matamata Veterinary Services to have his semen collected for either dispatch to clients or to be frozen. His semen freezes extremely well with a high postthaw motility. In addition, his frozen semen has also been tested by successfully inseminating a mare, with the resulting foal now eagerly awaited this coming season. So we are now fully confident that his frozen semen can be marketed to potential clients in NZ and overseas. At our new farm we are frantically putting up all necessary breeding facilities. With building consents taking their time to go through local government bodies for approval and the winter in North Canterbury so far not having been the kindest, we had to delay a few things but are confident that we will be ready to dispatch fresh semen from late October onwards. Jaleador will be shown during this years Christchurch Stallion Parade in mid September, so look out for him, if you are attending this event. We have also had Annie Studholm visit our farm recently, taking lots of great photos, which we will have available soon and which can also be seen on her website www.anniestudholm.com. We were so lucky with the weather, having had just enough dry days to get the opportunity to wash horses and taking pictures without the need for an umbrella. The very next day the heavens opened up again with continuous rain for 3 days - so we were all thrilled about some really clever planning.
Revision 2008 We would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate all owners for a successful May revision tour. Our stud was represented by 4 studs/owners and 5 horses, which all passed with flying colours, the youngest, Salinero only rising 3. Congratulations to:
Alice Pass Farm
In early April 2008, Hanna Stud relocated to the South Island, to Okuku, a picturesque area North West of Rangiora in North Canterbury. The farm comprises of just over 50 hectares, previously run as a sheep and beef unit but also used for cropping. All our horses arrived safely after a strenuous 2 day trip on the horsetruck, including a 3 hour trip on the ferry crossing Cook Strait. After our first month here, we have finished the fencing for the colts and stallions and a separate mare area. Work on the arena and roundyard is still ongoing as is the refurbishment and enlargement of the existing barns to accommodate stables for all the horses as well as an area to examine the mares. The area is of stunning beauty with a very good microclimate, making it less windy than more coastal areas. The backdrop of Mts Thomas and Grey with Mt Hutt in the far distance to the South round up the scenery.
