Paul and Sam with the boys Archer and Jakob Gurteen Stud was founded in 2000 with the purchase of a young colt named Griffyndor. A select few broodmares were procured soon after and the farm got up and running. The stud is principally managed by Samantha Pascoe (née Gurteen). She has extensive experience working in large thoroughbred and standardbred studs, as well as a background in eventing and dressage and an Agricultural Science degree. Paul Pascoe is the director of a business manufacturing lime fertilizer pellets. At Gurteen Stud, Paul manages the tractor work on the farm, such as regrassing paddocks and feeding out large bales of hay in the winter. We have a precise vision of the type of horses that we want to be breeding. They must have an exemplary temperament as well as the movement and athleticism to succeed in any discipline. Griffyndor was chosen specifically with these aims in mind. His oldest progeny are rising four. Breakers are reporting sensible, trainable brains, with big movement and heaps of charachter. We couldn't be more thrilled.
