Stud News

9 January, 2008

At the recent Auckland Arabian Spectacular, Simeon Shemini and his progeny and grand get again came up with the goods.

Mareesa MA

Maaressa MA (Simeon Shemini/Mea) owned by Maree Cave and Melissa Holdom took the title of Champion Mare.

SS Habiba (SS Hazeem/SS Mahsaali - a Shemini daughter) was first in her class and was in the running for the Reserve Championship being pipped by SS Bahiya (Simeon Shemini/SS Barzani) for the Reserve Mare Title.

SS Suri (Simeon Shemini/Rula) was awarded the Reserve Junior Champion Title - a great thrill for us all including her new owner Deb Bamber from Darfield, South Island. Deb fell in love with SS Suri at the 2007 NZ National Championships and after a lot of arm twisting we finally decided that Suri should join SS Shadrak - we wish Deb all the best with this exceptional filly.

SS Arimis (SS Ariq an Nasab/ SS Sevita - another Shem daughter) was shown in the gelding section at the Spectacular and we were very pleased that he held his own among some of New Zealand's top senior geldings to place second in his class to the eventual Champion Gelding. We feel this fellow will go right to the top.

July, 2007

At the 2007 NZ National Championships, Gerzanne Stud was to the fore again -
SS Ari winning the 2007 NZ National Mare Title and "Exquisite Image" bronze which takes pride of place.

SS Bahiya was again Top Five mare;
SS Suri, full sister to the mare champion was the Reserve Champion Filly and
SS Malak (SS Ariq an Nasab iiu x Simeon Setami +Au) was Reserve Champion Colt.

Two other Gerzanne bred horses were also in the Top Five - SS Habiba, belonging to Kelly Mason, was sashed Top Five Filly and SS Barak (Simeon Shemini x SS Barzani) belonging to Cindy Rowe, was Reserve Champion Senior Gelding.

NEWS FLASH

September 12, 2005

Gerzanne Arabian Stud proudly announces the purchase from Talaria Farms, Georgia, USA of the Straight Egyptian Stallion - TF FEZZAN.

TF Fezzan is the first Straight Egyptian son of Botswana out of the great moving Ramses bred mare Ramses Forever. Botswana's sire Thee Desperado is Scottsdale Grand Champion Stallion and US National Reserve Champion Stallion and his full brother Thee Cyclone was the 1996 and 1998 National Champion Stallion of South Africa. TF Fezzan was shown at the 2005 Egyptian Event in Kentucky where he was Reserve Champion Three Year Old Stallion and ATH Grand Champion Stallion.

TF Fezzan will arrive at Gerzanne in late September after 6 weeks in quarantine to take up his stud duties over the beautiful Simeon Shemini daughters.

2004 Stud and Show News

Gerzanne has again had a successful few years in and out of the show ring and although this news is old news we are very proud of what we have achieved.

SS HAZEEM was the 2004 Reserve National Champion Stallion - Reserve to the Australian Champion Colt Willowvale Picasso. SS Hazeem has been sold to Roman and Seida Scholl Latour of Northland to become the future sire at Tara Estate. Roman and Seida also own the 2001 National Champion Filly SS Rania (Simeon Shemini/SS Rani).

SS Hazeem

We were also very honoured when Angela Lagerburg of Desert Star Arabians chose SS Masi, the 2003 National Champion filly as a future broodmare for her stud. During the same visit, Deb Bamber from Darfield purchased SS Shadrak the 2002 and 2003 National Junior Champion Gelding. Angela Rogers of Jameel Arabians bought SS Freyha (Simeon Shemini/Kantara) - to date Freyha has not been shown.

Simeon Setami had her first filly after five colts. SS Sabriha is quite lovely as you can see from the photo.

2005 Stud and Show News

In December 2004 we took SS Fari (Simeon Shemini/Simeon Setami) to the Auckland Spectacular where he was awarded Junior Champion and Supreme Champion of the show. SS Fari went on to become Top Five Colt at the 2005 National Championships in Cambridge, North Island.

SS Ariq An Nassab iiu (Anaza Bay Shahh/Simeon Saharon) was shown at the 2005 Nationals where he was awarded Reserve National Champion Stallion.

Ariq is a huge moving bay stallion which Gerzanne has used over three of their Straight Egyptian mares and we eagerly await their foals.

SS Mahabbah

SS Mahabbah by Simeon Shemini and out of the 2000 National Champion Filly SS Mahsaali was Reserve Champion Filly at the 2005 Nationals and couldn't quite emulate her mother by winning the title but was pipped by another Simeon Shemini daughter Maressa MA out of Mea, the much decorated daughter of Simeon Shomer. SS Mahabbah has been sold to Fanus Crous, a new breeder to New Zealand from South Africa, together with the wonderful moving bay gelding SS Rifiq.

The National Mare Title is one that has eluded Gerzanne Stud. Again it was a Simeon Shemini daughter, SS Bint Seetha out of Gerzanne Stud's Rula who was awarded the title of 2005 National Champion Mare - she is owned by Maazea Arabians.

SS Bahiya

SS Sevita
SS Sevita
Gerzanne were thrilled to have two other Shemini daughters in the Top Five - SS Bahiya (a full sister to SS Barabas and SS Barak) and SS Sevita (pictured at left), out of Simeon Seviat, a full sister to SS Haya, the 2003 Reserve Champion Filly.

This brings Simeon Shemini's National Show Champions to 14, with 4 National Top Five Awards - quite an achievement for a nine-year-old stallion.

Rula surpassed all expectations by having her 5th filly in a row; SS Tali was born liver chestnut but is now a rather beautiful grey yearling.

Simeon Saharon has had a superb foal by Simeon Shemini; SS Arifa is now an elegant grey colt with unbelievable movement and presence.

Gerzanne's 2005 foaling has begun with SS Mahtob producing another beautiful bay filly - her fifth in a row. We will keep you updated with our progress over the next few months and with further news of our new "boy" - TF Fezzan.

Our 2002 year ended with a great thrill visiting the Middle East.
SS Barabas
SS Barabas with Sue and Princess Alia at the Royal Stables, Amman, Jordan.

We had been extremely fortunate to have met Dr Nasr Marei of Albadeia Stud, at Simeon Stud and were invited to visit him in Cairo.

What a wonderful experience - Albadeia had imported two Simeon horses - Simeon Safir (a full sister to Simeon Sadik) and Simeon Sharav - a full brother to our stallion Simeon Shemini. Nasr paraded all his horses for us and our favourite was Magd Albadeia, a beautiful grey stallion.

We then travelled on to Jordan where we saw our own SS Barabas compete at the Middle East Championships where he was a Top Ten Stallion against strong competition from Saudi Arabia. SS Barabas stands at stud at the Royal Stables in Amman.

On our return home we found we had three foals on the ground - SS Rani and Belrani had both foaled colts and Rula a filly, her third filly in a row. Shortly after our return SS Mahtob foaled a beautiful filly - her fourth in a row, Simeon Setami had another colt and our gorgeous Simeon Seviat has had the most beautiful colt.

SS Mishak - SS Rani's colt
SS Icarus - Belrani's colt by Simeon Shomer
SS Sukha - Rula's filly
SS Mahsousi - SS Mahtob's filly
SS Fari - Simeon Setami's colt
SS Bikri - Simeon Seviat's colt

Our 2003 breeding year came to a close with the 2003 Stud Tour during the AGM being hosted in the Tauranga area, with a visit to Gerzanne, where all our horses were paraded for an audience of more than 100 people.

SS Haya

SS Masi

SS Masi out of SS Mahtob followed in her sister SS Mahsaali's footsteps by winning the 2003 NZ National Champion Filly Title - this was an exceptional result as this is the fourth year in a row that a Simeon Shemini filly bred at Gerzanne has won this title.

SS Barak SS Barak also created New Zealand history by winning the 2003 National Champion Colt Title for the third year in a row - he is developing into an exceptional young stallion.
