    The Annual General Meeting 2009-05-31

    June 5, 2009

The ANZFHS held its and Annual General meeting on Saturday, 23 May. The candidates for postions on the board were voted on by counting the postal votes. Newly elected to the board is Jo-Anne Minns, and re-elected are Erica Lock, and Hans Maes. The fourth board member is Llea-Anne Vlaanderen.

The president presented the year that has passed with a number of highlights in this year, including the clinics, the 2009 keuring and the inaugural HPA and ROM. A big thanks was given toMarianne Robinson, who after serving 3 and 5 years on the board respectively has stepped down as a board member. Marianne has contributed much to making the society grow into its current status, having more than 100 members and 350 registered Friesians.

In the general meeting a number of motions were tabled and after some amendments to the motions they were unanimously accepted. As a result of the motions passed, the board will invite or appoint a NZ representative to liaise with the board if no NZ member is represented in the board. From the 2010 AGM, the board will consist of 5 members. The motion to have each new member receive a welcome pack, was also accepted. This will take the form of a welcome document pointing to places of information and a summary of terms used in the breeding of Friesians.

A new fee structure was presented and will be in force for registrations and transfers starting from the coming breeding season, and new membership fees and conditions will apply from 2010.

The next keuring is planned to be held in March/April 2011, and in preparation for that, the Board will investigate a week long clinic about preparing and judging Friesian Horses by a member of the inspection team.

The new board members met briefly after the AGM and the roles are taken up as follows:
    Hans Maes - president
    Jo-Anne Minns - secretary/treasurer
    Erica Lock - registrar
    Llea-Anne Vlaanderen - promotions

Keurings (Inspection and Classifications) in Australia and New Zealand have now been completed and the results are excellent!

    April 17, 2009

Australia/New Zealand supreme champion keuring 2009 Nynke C (Beart x Anton) owned by Fryske Hynder Stud

There is no doubt that is has been the best keuring ever, after three previous occasions, which illustrates the progress we are making with the breed in our two countries. The judges confirmed this and the results are proof of this. 15 horses were elevated to ster or maintained their ster, 1 became provisional kroon (first in ANZ), 2 became full kroon after successfully completing the IBOP test (another first), and one mare became preferent after her fourth daughter became ster (another first). One ster stallion rode the IBOP test with an excellent score of 81%. Just under 100 horses were presented.

The judging team was very happy with all arrangements made for transport, accommodation and meals, and the way they were looked after. The venues were also very suitable, although grass still has the preference of the team.

Every state has its worthy champion and reserve champion. The overall, ANZFHS champion, was awarded to Nynke C (Beart x Anton) owned by Fryske Hynder Stud, who became provisional "kroon" at the NSW (Tamworth) keuring. According to judges' comments " a horse that has such natural movements, she does not need any chasers to excel".

Some areas of improvement can mainly be made in the length of the front legs, the walk and in some instances the trot, putting the hindlegs further under the body. The judging team would like to see the horses less held back by the runners, especially in the trot and better use of chasers - this could get a horse to show better movement.

The keurings could not have been successful without members organising the keurings in each state and the New Zealand's North and South Islands. The ANZFHS board and the judges like express their thanks for all these efforts, as well as the members who had to prepare and present their horses, often travelling great distances.

The next keuring event is planned for 2011.
