Stud foundation lines

Arabian horses have been part of the family since Alec and Myra Napier imported Surur (Ras x Sayif) in 1949, followed by Katina (Electric Silver x Kanun by Riffal) and Melriffa (Riffal x Meliha), a three-quarter sister to Shereef.

Lyric
LYRIC
Surur left numerous Champions both in hand and under saddle. Katina had extreme movement and Melriffa was a gentle bay mare also a good mover but less easy to wind up than Katina. They have descendants in many leading NZ studs -- Aspen Hill has descendants of all three.

The first horses at Aspen Hills were Talei, a partbred by Lyric (Othello x Silver Dawn), Merdina (Surur x Melriffa) and Tarapuruhi Silverling (Saracen Karim x National Champion Polenka). None of these horses are now with us.

Next came AA Katalina and AA Suzanne. Katalina produced three fillies in a row before going to join Taurere Sunzada. Suzanne started with a Gai Cadet filly which died, then colt, filly, colt filly, colt - the latter, Pentagon being sold as a weanling this year.

Fantasy (Nisab x Jasmine [Arabesque el Bekaa x Ramah]) joined us in foal to Shalom La Ish. She lost twins but subsequently foaled our lovely mare Starlight Express (by Simeon Shanaan) whom we have retained. SE has given us two fillies, Whistle at Me by Royal Gold Treasure and Dawn Chorus (pending) by Simeon Sapar - line bred to Asfour.

Next came that wonderful old mare, Racca. A full sister to Merdina, she was a pretty bay mare with a very gentle nature. She gave us AH Elegy and AH Nada bint Racca before she was euthanised at 26 years with advancing arthritis. Both her foals are dark brown and over 15hh.

Here are some of the horses, past and present, who have shaped our stud.

Anouk Bint Repartee (1224)

Anouk Bint Repartee is a 14.2hh Chestnut Mare by Repartee 507 from South Pacific Crystal Moon 277. She has just weaned a filly by Ngapa Phoenix and will be bred to Aspen Hills Elegy for 2003.

AA Katalina
AA Catalina
Katalina was a foundation mare for Aspen Hills. She is by Gai Cadet, from Araleigh Kalina by Claudius. Claudius was a well conformed horse who can be found in the pedigrees of many successful endurance horses.
Katalina gave us 3 fillies, the first - AH Concord - represents the successful cross between Cadet and Simeon Shomer. The second, AH Gaia by Shalom La Ish, is one of the most balanced and agile movers we have. She competed in CTR this year. Her heart rates were just coming down when we found that she had sneaked in with Elegy at some stage and was pregnant. The third is the very pretty AH Katafah bint Katalina by Wind n Fire.

Silver Serpent
Tarapuruhi Silverling was a foundation mare for Aspen Hills, and was the only horse who remained from our Tarapuruhi Stud. The above photo represents one of the later foals from Tarapuruhi, Silver Serpent.
Silverling is the dam of Sue Irons very consistent little mare Star Ling and also Puketoi Hassan, Sandra Davey's promising endurance horse. She is also the dam of Puketoi Shahzada, successful in hand on numerous occasions. Silverling is by Saracen Karim from Polenka by Santarabia Bahran. We have only her filly by Elegy, AH Requiem. remaining at the stud.
