New South Wales chief veterinary officer Bruce Christie said that all vehicles that have transported horses within the purple zone must be decontaminated at one of these points before leaving the zone.
"Vehicles will only be considered decontaminated when: all inside and outside surfaces (not cabin) have been covered with detergent, all loose material has been removed and when the cabin is disinfected," he said.
Drivers must ensure their cabins do not contain stored horse blankets or other equipment. They must also wash the soles and the tops of their boots. Drivers must also ensure their vehicle has no loose material (eg dirt, hay, manure).
Vehicles containing loose material that cannot be washed will not be allowed to leave the purple zone because they risk spreading the disease.
