Vollrath Hanoverians - for world-class bloodlines and performance

The world's first collection of Equestrian Travel Classics, containing more than 100 of the most important equestrian travel books of all time!

May 21, 2007

ILPH Dollar, who was put on a strict diet and over the course of two years he lost a staggering 176 kilos - this is nearly 9 standard bags of horse feed.

When ILPH Bahir arrived, he was underweight by the same amount as Dollar was overweight. He's pictured above following a course of rehabilitation.

Like humans, the horse population is growing and not just in numbers but in weight. Like humans, this is a health risk.

What is the Right Weight? That's what the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) is asking.

The ILPH usually deals with horses which are underweight or neglected because their owners don't care enough about them. However, people who have overweight horses often love them too much. To help horse owners understand the risk they may be running with their horses the ILPH has launched the Right Weight Road Show.

The Right Weight Road Show will be appearing at ILPH Recovery and Rehabilitation Centres around Britain from June. The team will take people through an information session on why our horses are getting fatter and the correct way to find out what the right weight for your horse is. Anyone can bring a horse along to be weighed, and owners can discuss their horse's dietary needs with a qualified nutritionist and leave the session with a bag full of information.

The Right Weight Road Show is being supported by Dodson and Horrell Ltd, whose scientifically-validated weightape will be included in every information pack.
