Vollrath Hanoverians - for world-class bloodlines and performance

April 27, 2007

A television documentary on the late Kentucky Derby champion, Barbaro, is to screen in the United States this Sunday, on what have been the horse's fourth birthday.

The one-hour programme, entitled Barbaro: A Nation's Horse, will be shown on NBC sport, at 5pm (EST).

"It's extremely rare that an athlete stirs the depth of emotion among people that Barbaro did," said Dick Ebersol, Chairman of NBC Universal Sports and Olympics, and executive producer of the documentary.

"We were lucky enough to have a front row seat to witness the rise of this remarkable horse ... Sadly, we were also there for his devastating (accident) at the Preakness Stakes; and we were there to document why his subsequent struggle to live touched so many people."

The documentary has been produced by Emmy Award winner Rob Hyland.
