The Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament is offering a new $60,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner jumper championship premiering this fall.
The championship, which will be contested in a format modeled after the FEI World Cup Finals, will be a three-day competition. The substantial increase in prize money for this division and the format change are courtesy of Beacon Hill Show Stables which has sponsored a prestigious Junior Jumper Grand Prix at Syracuse for several years.
Fifty horse/rider combinations (with a maximum of two horses per rider) will compete. Thursday will be a race against the clock (Table C faults converted speed competition) with a $10,000 purse. Friday riders will be challenge over an impressive course hoping to make to the jump off (Time First Round jump off) also with a $10,000 purse. The best 25 jump on Sunday in two rounds competing a piece of the $40,000 purse.
"Beacon Hill is supporting the Syracuse horse show and investing in young riders at the same time," says Beacon Hill owner Frank Madden. "It's important that young riders begin to get familiar with the World Cup Finals format, and I think this is a great opportunity for them."
"It means a lot that it's the whole group at Beacon Hill, including clients, that is contributing to make this happen and invest in the future of the sport," says Tournament organizer John Madden.
Each fall the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament welcomes the top-ranked equestrians from across the US and the world to downtown Syracuse to compete at the War Memorial Arena in the Oncenter Complex.
Beginning October 31 and running through November 4, the 2007 event will feature a full slate of high-level competition, entertainment, shopping and exhibitions.
