Rangiora wins first Interschool polo tournament

November 20, 2006

Action from the tournament.

Six teams from Canterbury schools braved the elements on Friday to compete in the first Interschool Tournament of the season.

Hosted by Roddy Wood at his Waireka Polo Farm in Sefton, the teams included pupils from Christ's College, St. Margaret's College, St. Andrew's College, Rangiora High School and Medbury, with many playing their first ever tournaments.

Rangiora were victorious in the B Grade showing experience and great goal scoring throughout their three chukkas.

With the quality of players in the Christ's College A Team so high, an "All Stars" team of local players was called upon to give provide a suitable challenge. This team, led by young Henry Wood were the winners on the day, providing great entertainment for the loyal spectators.

With the majority of players at this level not having their own ponies, this tournament was only made possible by the generosity of Roddy Wood and other local players who kindly loaned ponies on the day. Their support is appreciated, as is that of the day's prize sponsor www.mistralpolo.com.

The next tournament will be held at Waireka on December 3 and will feature even more teams. Any young riders who wish to be involved or want to learn more about polo and how to start playing can contact Roddy Wood.
