This website is great. It has been very imformative to me. I purchased a starving little gelding off of an ad on craigslist last year, and was told he was an Appy mix. However, from my research, i am inclined to believe he is actually full blood Ap. Norman is 14 hands, solidly built, with great conformation. He is a bay roan, and has the mottled skin, white sclera, and striped hooves of the Ap. And, I believe he does the Shuffle. A few times, I have seen him, do what I thought was Pace, out in the paddock, and when riding he will do a very smooth gait that is faster than a walk, but feels different than a trot. When I read about the Indian Shuffle, I think I have figured Norman's odd gait out. norman is wonderful, and at age 34, is still going strong. He is opinionated, but gentle enough for me to use in teaching lessons. I am so glad that I bought that starving little bag of bones gelding.

IT is so wonderful to see your page on Appaloosas. My first horse was an appaloosa and over here they were unheard of. He was 18 months old when I got him and he was from the Nez Perze line. I learnt to ride on him bareback and even pony clubbed him that way until my non horsey parents could afford a second hand saddle. I went from there on him to our state dressage championships coming in third, NSW is the biggest populated growth in Australia so this is no mean feat. His name was Marble Challenger and when he died I repaleced him with another horse of similiar breeding however unfortunatly he was struck dead by a lighting strike . Appaloosas have the best nature and closser to human then even dogs in my opioion Cheers..

I love the information on your site about the Indian Shuffle, which one of my mares does.
I visited NZ many years ago and doubt Iīll ever get back there - but itīs great to know of you and dreams are always good!!

Hi Scott, always wonderful to visit your website! For N.C., Foundation Appaloosas are well-known for their "good trail-sense". Appaloosas aren't stupid and stubborn, they just don't respond well to harsh punishment as a training tool. You earn their respect through kind and fair treatment, then they'll come to respect you as their teacher. It's smart of them, not at all dumb. Afterall, who really learns under the whip? No one I know. ;^) I hope you find the Appaloosa you're searching for and have a wonderful time learning together. Thanks for listening.

I am so excited to have found this web site. I bought an appaloosa for my daughter's B-Day, and have been throw back to childhood when I received an appaloosa for christmas. Unfortunately my appaloosa was unable to find a trainer and I didn't get to keep him. I now am determined to restore the reputation of appaloosa in my area; which no one likes, and states they wouldn't have one in their pasture. I have been told appaloosa's are stubborn and stupid. I do not see them this way at all. My daughter's mare is curious, and independant. I would love to know ALL their is regarding good breeding to produce a foal for myself from my daughters mare. I am enjoying your site tremendously, and wonder if you have references regarding the personalities of your stallions, and if your offspring makes good trail mounts.
Thank you!
Laneita

BOLD and WONDERFUL breeding program you have going, thanks for adding your information about the Nez Perce who put this breed to such historical use. Too bad though that all of those horses where outbred just for spite, they were that magnificent!! Jealousy !!I am so glad you are treating this breed as a breed, and not a color, like Palomino, buckskin, pinto, etc.....You show on your website, just what I had hoped to see someday with this breed. The original magnificence, presence, mind, gait, ......color, and hair, that they were originally known for.
That and the incredible stamina and heart of this breed!!!
THANK YOU AGAIN, keep it up, perhaps someday I will have the means to own one of your horses?!
A goal to go for anyway

Howdy Scott, We have spoken on the phone in the past, but it wasn't until now that I actually went to see your site. Your horses are truly true to type, the ones we had were mostly of Thoroughbred crossings and looked quite different in many ways. Congratulations on keeping the true Appaloosa type going and good luck with the future.

So glad I found your web-site. Wonderful horses. Thanks for keeping the breed pure! I found out quite by accident how wonderful foundation Apps are when I bought a 17 year old Appaloosa from a breeder who wanted a really good home for her gelding. She also knew that I was in my late 30's and had wanted a horse my whole life and had never realized my dream of owning one. Brought together by a veterinarian the breeder and I hit it off immediately and I fell madly in love with her gelding. It really was love at first sight. His registered name was Cotton Ta Toby and he was foaled in 1975. He lived to the ripe old age of 30 and was humanely euthanized in May of 2005. What a wonderful horse he was. As you would know they are extremely intelligent and level headed with stamina and strength but have a gentleness also. I miss him terribly and have enjoyed so much seeing him in your horses. Thanks again for keeping the Appaloosa breed pure.

Hello!
Thanks for hitchhike to Punga Cove! I've checked out your website, it's interesting to know how special the Appaloosa horses are! But, I already understood that from you in the car. I took a picture of one of the horses and published on my weblog. I hope you don't mind?
