A plastic donkey named Donny who surveys the world from the front window of a house in Cleethorpes, England, is fast becoming a Facebook sensation.
The latest trend is people to take a selfie in front of the window, with Donny taking pride of place in the background.
Donny has his very own Facebook page, The Cleethorpes Window Donkey, which had 1938 followers at the time of writing.
Donny’s fans have been sending in their selfies to keep the page fresh.
Donny has already made a big spread in his local paper, and his fame is growing daily.
The Cambridge Street home of Donny’s owners is now a popular for destination for Donny pilgrims, who can easily pose on the footpath outside the property to capture a selfie with the celebrity donkey.
His elderly owners Irene and Ernie Lowe, who have been married for 62 years, say news of Donny’s popularity has reached them, despite neither of them having a computer.
Irene, 81, told the Grimsby Telegraph: “Our son told us that Donny was on the internet.
“We think it’s funny because we’ve never seen anybody stop and take a photograph of him. They must be very quick.”
Donny was intended as a garden ornament but the Lowes were concerned over the possibility of him being stolen, hence his pride of place in the front room.
Ernie, 89, said they did not mind Donny being famous. “People aren’t doing any harm if they want to take a photo of a model donkey.”
People taking a selfie with Donny are asked to do so from the footpath. His page can be viewed here.
