A middle-aged woman is dead after her car and a horse collided near Matamata, in New Zealand’s North Island.
Waikato Police have yet to name the victim, who was the sole occupant of the car.
Emergency services were called to the crash in Hopkins Road, south of Matamata, around 6.20pm on Monday.
Police said the car, travelling towards Matamata, had struck a horse.
The car travelled further along the road before it crashed through a driveway and into a tree, where it came to a stop.
Next of kin of the victim were notified soon after the crash as family members lived nearby and were quick to arrive at the scene.
Police set up traffic diversions while the crash scene was investigated.
The horse died as a result of the smash.
