Global feed company Alltech has dropped its support of the prestigious National Horse Show in the US, after three years as title sponsor.
Kentucky.com reported that Alltech told National Horse Show president Mason Phelps in March that it was ceasing its affiliation with the show.
Alltech had signed on with the show when it moved to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington in 2011. The show had been run at New York’s Madison Square Garden since 1883.
Kentucky.com said that prize money for the show, which hosts the Maclay Finals, increased to nearly $850,000 last year.
Alltech spokeswoman Susanna Elliott told Kentucky.com the decision had nothing to do with the National Horse Show.
“It’s a fantastic event,” she said. “It was a strategic decision made by the company. We felt we got the National Horse Show off to a good start, on good footing.”
She said the primary focus for the company this year was the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, in France starting in late August.
