A horse and rider were struck by a car being driven by a man allegedly fleeing from police in Houston, Texas.
The horse, named Blackjack, suffered a broken leg and neck, and was euthanized at the scene.
Houston police allege the driver, 23, sped away on Friday evening after officers tried to pull him over for a traffic violation near Parker and Homestead roads.
A high-speed pursuit began, during which the driver allegedly threw items out the window of his car.
The chase ended when the car struck the 12-year-old horse, being ridden by a 17-year-old youth, identified by media as Cedric Abraham.
Local media named the owner of the horse as Lee Sion, who said he often let Cedric ride Blackjack around the neighborhood.
It is understood Cedric escaped with minor injuries, which were assessed at hospital.
The driver faces charges of evading arrest, failure to stop and render aid, and tampering with evidence.
