The dumping of a dead Shetland pony with severe wounds from an ingrown head collar is under investigation by the British RSPCA.
The 18-month to 2-year-old animal was found dumped on a back road at Hale, near Milnthorpe
It was apparent to investigating officers that no veterinary treatment had been sought for the animal’s severe head and jaw wounds, and a prosecution is likely if the owner can be identified.
The animal, found on New Year’s Eve, had probably died in the preceding 48 hours.
The RSPCA urged anyone with information about the horse to come forward.
