New Zealand pony club members are being encouraged to complete an online survey exploring the health, feeding and general management of horses and ponies involved in Pony Club activities around the country.
To date, about 300 responses have been received to the Equine Health and Management Survey from an estimated 5000 junior and senior Pony Club members, and more are encouraged to take part.
The survey will remain running into January 2013.
The study is a project being run by PhD student Karlette Anne, working as part of the equine nutrition team at Massey University.
The main goal is to identify health issues occurring in horses and ponies that are specifically related to nutrition and management (feeding and exercise regulation).
Through this knowledge, the nutrition team intends to develop simple dietary and management strategies to overcome or prevent these issues from occurring in the first place.
The survey can be found here.
