Kiwi eventers had a good day at the weekend’s Belton Park One Day Event, with both Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson winning classes.
Nicholson won the advanced class on Avebury, adding just a few cross-country time faults to his slick dressage score (25.9) to finish on 39.9, well ahead of Sarah Stretton and Skip On II with 45.6. They just pipped Caroline Powell and Lenamore, who finished third on 46.0. Nicholson’s Mr Cruise Control was also fifth in the class.
Todd scored in an intermediate class on the Italian bred Alfiano del Ferro in the seven-year-old son of Cougar’s first start at that level.
Sarah Cohen won the three-star CIC Grantham Cup on 53.7, with Australian Paul Tapner’s Inonothing second on 56.9. It was only the horse’s third start back after he was injured at the World Equestrian Games in 2010.
